Certified Athletic Therapists (CATs) are best known for their quick-thinking, on-field emergency care of professional and elite athletes. The first to respond when someone gets hurt, they are experts at injury assessment and rehabilitation. It’s that same mix of on-site care and active rehabilitation skills that makes Athletic Therapists so effective in treating the musculoskeletal (muscles, bones, and joints) injuries of all Canadians, whether on the field or in the clinic.

The five practice domains of a CAT:

  1. Prevention
  2. Assessment
  3. Intervention
  4. Practice Management
  5. Professional Responsibility

Our name, ProActive Wellness and Prevention, describes the best way to properly manage a concussion: by doing the work before the injury happens.

A baseline test, done before the start of the sports season, helps measure every area of brain function, which could be affected by a concussion. We can compare post-injury scans to baseline parameters to accurately diagnose and establish when you’re fully recovered. Without baseline parameters we can’t know when the brain has fully recovered.

An initial concussion can usually be treated by our highly-trained, certified practitioners. However, it is a second concussion – especially sustained prior to full recovery – may result in long-term brain damage or other problems.
While, professional sports organizations have been using pre-season baseline testing for years, we offer this service for youth and amateur sports associations because prevention is the best medicine.

Orthotics are prescription medical foot supports made from taking moulds of your feet and performing a full biomechanical assessment of your feet, body, and gait. They are designed to be inserted into your shoes to treat or prevent a variety of injuries. They also make your feet more efficient at walking, standing, running and sports, Structural abnormalities, including a fallen arch, can limit the foot’s function, causing pain, stiffness, numbness and fatigue throughout the kinetic chain, as it extends from the foot to the spine and beyond.

We offer a variety of orthotics from running and cross training, to everyday use. ProActive Physiotherapy has partnered with the Orthotic Group to provide a total foot orthotic solution! Along with a thorough physiotherapy assessment, ProActive also incorporates
computerized GaitScan Technology to assess and prescribe orthotics. Contact us with any further questions! [LINK TO CONTACT PAGE]
